The distance from the nearest boundary of the sanctuary (Cauvery North Wildlife Sanctuary) to this proposed area is at about 2.10 km, and there is seasonal and occasional movement of elephants noticed from the sanctuary area to the proposed area and around for crop raid. There is also a railway line passing close to the proposed diversion area at a distance of nearly 2.00 km for a length of nearly 10km. The railway line is located between Cauvery North Wildlife Sanctuary and proposed area. In the year 2003 and 2013, totally 7 number of elephants died due to train hit in this railway stretch.

The project proponent has given undertakings to bear the cost of Net Present Value, Additional Net Present Value, Compensatory Afforestation with maintenance, to pay the cost of felling of trees if found and lease rent as fixed by the Forest Department at the time of sanction along with any escalation in future for the forest land to be diverted etc. Also, the District Collector, Krishnagiri has certified that, there is no alternate route available for the proposed project. The work will be permitted after strict supervision of Forest Officers. Possible damage to wild flora and fauna due to this project is very low. The proposed area is located on the northern side of Udedurgam Reserved Forest at a distance of about 2.10 Km. The proposed site consists of only shrubs and hence the question of damages to the flora and fauna does not arise and there is no tree felling involved due to diversion of 0.9856ha of the area for the erection of Transmission line. It is observed that, there is no endangered species of Flora and Fauna found in the proposed area. Considering the above facts and field observations, I recommend this proposal for seeking diversion of forest land.

The proposed diversion of forest area has been classified as “Un assessed Waste – Vanasaragam” Defined as Forest and set apart to Forest Department. As no alternative land is available for this project of laying of transmission line through the forest land is inevitable. Hence recommended.
