The diversion of of 22.11 hectare (54.61 Acre) of forest land in senjiagaram RF( Red hills range), Palavakkam RF(Gummidipoondi range), and Tamaraikuppam (Red hills range) in Tiruvallur division , Tiruvallur district for Kannankottai - Thervaikandigai reservoir project is recommended since the proposed Kannankottai-Thervaikandigai reservoir project is location specific and it will augement the drinking water supply to Chennai city and its suburbs and it will directly benefit people.

The area proposed for diversion is situated in Thamaraikuppam RF (7.71 ha),Senjiagaram RF (7.18 ha) and Palavakkam RF(7.22 ha) of Tiruvallur Division. A total No.of 1033 trees will have to be felled for this project. Project will be providing Drinking water supply to Chennai city and stream will also be useful for local Wildlife.Hence diversion of proposed land is recommended.

This is a proposed drinking water project to supply water to Chennai. 1033 trees raised under various schemes are required to felled, as reported by the DFO. No naturally grown/ spontaneous grown tree is available in this area which are to be felled. The User Agency have found land for compensation. No wildlife is going to be affected by the project, as reported by the District Forest Officer. All other conditions / formalities are met by the User Agency.
