The proposed land for diversion extending 18.1420 ha and lying in 4 bits is for the establishment of prestigious IIT at Palakkad. 30 to 40% of this area is rocky and the rest of the area supports tree growth of deciduous species. Govt. has already acquired an extent of 189.9069 ha of land belonging to Government Departments and private holdings for the purpose. The 4 bits of Vested Forest land proposed for diversion is lying scattered inside the above acquired area. By diverting these 4 bits, the acquisition of land for IIT becomes a single compact block and will be meaningful.
