ThoothukudiTirunelveliDFO RecommendedInspected the site in Salikulam West RF, Comprising 0.42 Ha of Forest Land to provide basic amenities for pilgrimage and people visit Arulmigu Malaiyandi Sastha Ayyanar Kovil on 10.06.2021 at 3.00 P.M.The Reserve Forest area of Salikulam west in 960.36 ha and the Forest type according to Champion and Seth’s classification is “TYPE 6ADSI – Southern Thorn Scrub”. The Thorny acacias and their associates occur but usually in stunted form. Much of the sol is shallow and bare. The Major species are Eurphorbhia viscose, Cassia auriculata and Dalbergia nultiflora. Other species seen are Commiphora berrgi, Zizphus xylopycus, Dalbergia coromandeliana etc.The fauna species found in Salikulam West Reserve Forest are spotted deer, Hare, Porcupine, Squirrel, Pangolin, Python, Cobra, Sand Boa, Common River Turtle, Cattle Egret, White breasted Kingfisher, Hoopoe, Blossom headed parakeet, Pond Heron, Grey Partridge, Common peafowl, Emerald Dove, Drango, Jungle crow, Myna, Babbler, House Sparrow, Coucal, Treepie, Russel Viper Etc.In the proposed area there are 4 numbers of Commiphora berrgi, 6 numbers of Zizphus xylopycus and 3 numbers of Dalbergia coromandeliana. The above species are in stunted growth stage. The wildlife movement in the area of 0.42 ha is also minimal, as the altitude of the area is 110m above mean sea level.The work will be carried out by the user agency without any further damage to the Forest area and Wildlife. Hence the proposal may be recommended.
