Significance of the forest land proposed for diversion from wildlife point of view
(i).
Details of wildlife present in and around the forest land proposed for diversion :
As the area is near an open cast mine, there is no presence of bigger animals. However, Barking deer (Muntiacus mintijack), jackal (Canis sureus indicus hodgson), Fox (Vulpes bengalensis), Hare (Lepus nigricollis), are seen in the forest land proposed for diversion. Birds like common doves (Streptopellchin onesies), mynas (Acridotheres tristis), jungle crow (Corvus macrohyreos), Indian cuckoo (Eudynamis scolopaclus), parrots (Psittacula eupilia), etc are seen Common reptiles and lizards like Indian cobra ( Naja naja naja , Common krait ( Bungarus cacruleus), rat snakes (ptyas mucosus), common garden lizards (Calotesversicolor) etc are seen in the area.

The Mahanadi Coalfields Limited has proposed for widening of the Loading platform of Sardega railway siding No. 1&2 and Basundhara Area for smooth dispatch of coal which is beneficial to the govt. of India and increase in transportation of coal. As the existing platform is less, area to compensate the transportation of more quantity, it is necessary to widen the existing loading platform. So proposed area is justified for acquiring the land. And the forest land proposed to be diverted is barest minimum for the project transport of coal by railway will also help reduce the air pollution causing due to road transportation of coal. Hence the approving authority has justified the area for the same.
