The site for proposal for diversion of forest into non forest purpose for Tlawng hnar recharging dam for Aug Imp. of Zobawk WSS was visited by DFO five times during June 2022 to March 2023 and after thorough inspection he have not recommended the project. I also visited the proposed site 18.4.2023, this inspection the river course was devoid of water and the river channel was totally dry. It was reported that there was another impounding dam 300.72mt away from the present proposed site in the upstream. DFO in his inspection note stated that since the other dam was already constructed a few hundred metres away and the present proposed dam if constructed will make the river drier down the stream. It is also agreed with the view made by DFO after many visits of the site and it is apprehended that there shall not be sufficient water in few hundreds metres away since the other dam has already captured the available water. The proposed area for diversion of forest as mentioned in the proposal is 0.1088Ha but the degradation it will be causing to the pristine forest and beyond the project sites. From the scrutiny of the secondary information and present inspection considering to the destruction of forest it will be causing and the expected result for benefit of community cost – benefit which can be overseen from the present situation of availability of water in the river channel the project is Not Recommended.
