The roads are to be expanded by cutting the hill earth which are generally very step. Therefore, during the monsoon, the freshly cut earth are prone to erosion and landslide.

The Widening and improvement of Package II of Akhegwo Jessami Road Section of NH 202 into two laning of existing KM 326.018 Akash Bridge to KM 340.843 Jessami in the state of Manipur by NHIDCL would improve the socio economic profile of the people in an around Ukhrul District. The proposed area is unavoidable and barest minimum. So, it is Recommended that forest land proposed to be diverted, may be made available for the construction of the road. NH 202 is one of the important Road connecting Manipur and Nagaland States. Widening and improvement of the Road Section will enhance road connectivity and increase socio economy the villages locating along the road. The proposal for diversion of 31.849 Hectare Forest land is the barest minimum and there is no alternate site/alignment and recommended subject to the following condition “As the proposed site is hilly terrain prone to soil erosion/land slide, adequate protection measures such as protection/retaining wall, site specific soil and moisture conservation measures at vulnerable points shall be required to avoid landslides”.

The proposed road will cover one of the most unreachable parts of the State inhabited by native tribes. This road will connect the undeveloped North Eastern part of the State of Manipur with the neighboring states. Due to the lack of all weather roads, crucial development works including health infrastructures could not be taken up properly in this region of the State. Once completed, the road will benefit the inhabitants of the area and their economic and social development will be accelerated.
