Recommended as the project is for the purpose of development of a place of historical significance, the site of the famous Khongjom Battle of the Anglo - Manipuri War of Independence, 1891 where the great legendary son of Manipur, Paona Brajabashi and other Manipuri soldier made their supreme sacrifice for defending their motherland. The area proposed by the Tourism Department for the project is the barest minimum required and no other suitable non forest land is available in the vicinity.
