Due to the ongoing litigation with regard to the proposed Shillong Dawki road expansion along NH 40, the work could not be taken up as the new realignment of the route of pipeline shall have to pass through Forest land. Since the project is of great public importance for providing portable drinking water to Shillong Urban Agglomeration, hence recommended.

The proposal pertains to the diversion of forest land in Upper Shillong Protected Forest for an area of 0.852 ha. of protected forest at Upper Shillong, for the purpose of widening and upgrading Shillong Dawki Road. The instant project would necessitate the felling of 156 trees. Perused the views of the Conservator of Forests Khasi & Jaintia Hills Territorial in Part III and Considering that the diversion is required for providing drinking water to Shillong Urban Agglomeration and due to widening of the existing road to 2 lane with pave shoulder/4 lane of NH 40 Shillong Dawki road, therefore laying of pipeline needs to be shifted/re aligned Hence, the proposal is recommended
