I have inspected the Proposed area for diversion on 03/03/2022 and 15/06/2022. The area proposed for diversion is demarcated on the ground. No rare/endangered/threatened species of flora and fauna is found in the proposed area for diversion . Maximum of the area proposed for diversion goes for submersion of land. The area is comprised of hillocks with gentle slope and river flowing between these hillocks in the gorge. Vegetation is diverse comprising of various miscelaneous species Keeping in mind of the above facts and my site inspection report and since the dam has to be constructed against the river which flows majorly in forest land, I am of the opinion to recommend approval for diversion of 552.66 Ha of forest land.

I have inspected the proposed site along with the Assistant Conservator of Forests, Belagavi Sub Division and staff on 21 06 2022, the proposed forest area diversion for construction of Dam across Markandeya river and ancillary infrastructure is in forest Survey No. 223of Mavanur village Hukkeri Range Gokak Taluk. As the construction of Dam across Markandeya river and ancillary infrastructure is very much required for the Gokak Taluka villagers. Hence I recommended the proposal with below conditions for the diversion of 22.411 ha. of Forest land in Sy No. 223 of Mavanur village for the purpose of construction of Dam across Markandeya river and ancillary infrastructure as per the provisions under Forest Conservation Act 1980. 1. An extent of 100.00 Ha. of plantation Should be raised in Mavanur village at the cost of User Agency. 2. User agency shall provide funds for raising of weeds and invasive species in the areas rich in wildlife. 3. User agency shall provide funds for purchase of one vehicle to Belagavi Division to curb wildlife related offenses, anti poaching squad, equipped with communication instruments. 4. User agency shall provide funds for signage’s in appropriate dimensions near the proposed project area within forest limits for sensitization of general public towards the forest, wildlife and environmental issues in consultation with jurisdictional forest officers 5. User shall provide funds for management and development of grasslands for angulates and herbivores. 6. User agency shall compensate any man animal conflict due to this submergence.
