Excessive grazing and destruction of forest cover have accelerated soil erosion and formation of gullies. Most the areas have lost all the fertile topsoil

Details of Protected Area and comments on the impact of Project on the ESZ :
Proposed forest land to be diverted within Bukkpatna Reserve Foerst i.e.., 51.32 ha falls within the Bukkapatna Chinkara Wildlife Sanctuary. Wildlife habitat is considered as the environment used by an animal and is essential for food, mating cover and other requirements for survival. Any disturbance or loss of such habitat will have adverse effect on the overall population of the animals which live in that area.

I have inspected the proposed site for Diversion of 9.28 Ha. forest land for construction of Tumkur Branch Canal in Udugere Reserve Forest of Kadur Range, Udugere Sy. No.117 and Honnenahalli Sy. No.118. This area is having Tropical Thorn Forests and Tropical Dry Evergreen Forests and list of trees to be cut are submitted separately. Considering the importance of the project for the general public for drinking water supply and filling of water tanks, the proposal is recommended for appropriate consideration. However, the User Agency must be asked to take up mitigative measures in order to facilitate proper management of forests and flora & fauna in the area. This area is required by the User Agency for implementation of the project.
