Working plan prescription for the forest land proposed for diversion :
Area of Lai RF and Pailapathal RF come under Coppice-With-Standard (CWS) and Rehabilitation-cum-Plantation Working circles.
6.
Brief note on vulnerability of the forest area to erosion :
Moderately Prone to erosion
7.
Approximate distance of the proposed site for diversion from boundary of forest(in km.) :
0
8.
Significance of the forest land proposed for diversion from wildlife point of view
(i).
Details of wildlife present in and around the forest land proposed for diversion :
Fauna frequently sighted in the area are Hyena, Jackal, Barking deer, Langur, Rhesus macaque/monkey, Mongoose, Wild cat, Wild pig, snakes, birds etc. Being the neighbouring area of PTR (within the notified ESZ of Palamau WLS, Betla NP and Mahuadanr Wolf Sanctuary) it is itself a rich faunal diversity area and big mammals like elephant were also sighted in and around the area in the past.
(ii).
Whether forms part of national park, wildlife sanctuary, biosphere reserve, tiger reserve, elephant corridor, wildlife migration corridor etc. :
No
(iii).
Whether the forest land proposed for diversion is located within eco-sensitive zone(ESZ) of the Protected Area notified under Wildlife(Protection) Act,1972 (Note: In case, ESZ of a Protected Area is not notified,then,10kms distance from boundary of the Protected Area should be treated as ESZ):
Yes
Details of Protected Area and comments on the impact of Project on the ESZ :
Lai KRF & Pailapathal RF fall in ESZ of Palamau WLS, Betla NP and Mahuadanr Wolf Sanctuary. This diversion proposal is for voluntary relocation of villagers from Latu, Kujrum and other forest villages from core area of Palamau Tiger Reserve. This will change the land use pattern of the area. Felling of trees for agriculture, infrastructure and other necessities of the new settlement along with increased biotic interferences will impact this ESZ area of diverted forest land
(iv).
Whether any national park, wildlife sanctuary, biosphere reserve, tiger reserve, elephant corridor, wildlife migration corridor etc., is located within 1 Km. from boundary of the forest land proposed for diversion :
No
(v).
Whether any rare/endangered/unique species of flora and fauna found in the area :
No

It is an ambitious and important proposal as it is going to benefit one of the first Tiger Reserve under Tiger Project and the only National Park in Jharkhand. Letters of DC Latehar and DC Palamau inform about the non availability of suitable non forest land. The proposed site is a dense forest of 0.5 to 0.6 vegetative density, is rich in floral and faunal diversity and also falls in notified ESZ. However as communicated by DD, PTR S in spite of these facts and also Latehar Forest Division having degraded forest land, this being a voluntary relocation scheme, they have ed this site as the proposed site of Lai Pailapathal RF is found desirably suitable by the villagers among the alternatives being considered. The relocation of Latu and Kujrum villages will result in making more than 300 ha land in core area of Palamau Tiger Reserve free from human interferences and thereby providing an inviolate area which will be developed as meadow and will be available for a wide range of wildlife. Therefore taking in consideration the bigger goal of wildlife conservation, this proposal can be recommended, provided the suggested conditions get fulfilled.
