The “Drill of one exploratory well” is a Govt. of India Project under ONGC having national interest to execute the Drill for probabilities of Hydrocarbon and its related resources by ONGC in the Sonai Reserve Forest area of this division.

The diversion of 6.09 Ha. Forest land under Sonai Reserve Forests of Hawaithang Range, Dholai, Cachar Forest Division for the purpose of drilling for exploration of hydrocarbon under Cachar Forest Division would not cause any major damage to the forest and environment provided mitigated measures are implemented by the User Agency as per guideline of F.C.Act,1980. As the forest area proposed for diversion is unavoidable and barest minimum required for the project, therefore, the diversion of the forest land as above is recommended for acceptance subject to fulfillment of the terms and conditions of F.C.Act.
